Hey there, fishing families! Ready to introduce your little ones to the joys of angling? Our 2-hour kids' fishing trip in Clearwater Beach is just the ticket. We're talking prime Gulf waters, eager fish, and a whole lot of smiles. Captain Mikey knows these waters like the back of his hand and he's got a knack for making fishing fun for the kiddos. Whether your young'uns are first-timers or budding pros, we've got the perfect set-up to get them hooked on fishing.
Picture this: You and your kids, out on the sparkling waters of Clearwater Beach, with rods in hand and the sun on your faces. This isn't your average day at the beach – it's an adventure! We keep things short and sweet at two hours, which is just right for younger attention spans. Captain Mikey's all about making sure the little anglers have a blast. He'll show them the ropes, from baiting the hook to reeling in their catch. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like seeing a kid's face light up when they feel that first tug on the line.
We keep it simple and fun for the kiddos. We're talking light tackle that's easy for small hands to handle. Captain Mikey's got all the gear you need, sized just right for young anglers. We'll be targeting some of the Gulf's friendliest fish – ones that are eager to bite and give the kids a good fight. We might do some bottom fishing, or if the conditions are right, maybe even some light casting. Don't worry if your kids have never fished before – we'll teach them everything they need to know, from how to hold the rod to the proper way to reel in a fish. Safety's our top priority, so life jackets are a must, and we've got plenty of shade on the boat to keep everyone comfy.
"Captain Mikey and his first mate were fantastic! We had a great time! My four year old wanted to be a big helper and they made him feel extra special and they were so patient with him. I wanted to catch a big fish after catching some small ones and they took us to an extra spot so I could reel in a big one! Thank you for a great time!" - Kristin
"Super nice guy - had a great time and great with the kids." - Francis
"Captain Michael was fun and engaging. He took us to a nice spot where we caught lots of fish. He also filleted the catches and recommended a shop that cooked it for us. It was a great time and the kids loved it. Would certainly recommend it." - Tae Won
Redfish are a favorite around here, and for good reason. These copper-colored beauties put up a great fight, even for the little ones. They hang out in the shallows and near structures, making them perfect targets for our young anglers. Spring and fall are prime time for reds, but we can find them year-round in Clearwater.
Tripletail are like the hidden treasures of our waters. These quirky-looking fish love to float near the surface, often mistaken for debris. But don't let their lazy appearance fool you – they're quick to strike a bait and put up a scrappy fight. Kids get a kick out of their unusual looks, and they're a tasty catch if you decide to keep one for dinner.
Gag Grouper are the heavyweight champs of our nearshore waters. These bruisers love to hang around rocky bottoms and reefs. While the big ones might be too much for small arms, we often find juvenile gags that are perfect for kids to tangle with. They're a real thrill to catch, and the excitement of reeling one up from the bottom is hard to beat.
Snook are the rockstars of inshore fishing. These sleek, silver fish are known for their acrobatic jumps and strong runs. We find them around mangroves, bridges, and in the passes. Snook can be a bit tricky to catch, but when we hook one, it's always a memorable experience for the kids.
Grey Snapper, also known as mangrove snapper, are the perfect fish for introducing kids to fishing. They're abundant, bite readily, and put up a nice little fight. These tasty fish hang around structures and are active feeders, giving the kids plenty of action. Plus, they're just the right size for young anglers to handle.
Alright, folks, here's the deal – this trip is all about getting your kids hooked on fishing and making some awesome family memories. We've got the perfect combo of fun, learning, and excitement packed into two hours. Captain Mikey's ready to share his local knowledge and make sure everyone has a blast out on the water. So why not give your kids the gift of fishing? It's way better than any video game, trust me. Grab your spots now, and let's get those lines in the water!

Captain Mike was great with my son and always made sure the lines were ready with bait. Even with the wind and waves we still caught some neat fish. We will definitely book with him again when we are back in Clearwater.

Gag grouper are tough customers that'll test your strength. These grey-marbled brutes average 20 inches but can reach 50+ and weigh up to 80 pounds. You'll find them around rocky bottoms, reefs, and wrecks in 60-250 feet of water. Fall and winter are prime seasons before they move to deeper spawning grounds. Anglers love gags for their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. To hook one, drop a live pinfish or large jig to the bottom. When you feel the telltale thump, reel fast and pull hard to keep them from diving back into their rocky lairs. Here's a pro tip: once hooked, keep your rod tip low and pump steadily. Let the rod do the work or you'll wear yourself out fast with these bruisers!
Grey snapper, or mangrove snapper, are sneaky little brawlers. They usually run 10-14 inches and 1-2 pounds, but can get up to 20 pounds offshore. You'll find them around any structure - docks, reefs, wrecks, you name it. They're most active at night, especially around the full moon. Anglers love targeting greys for their scrappy fight and excellent eating. To catch 'em, use light tackle and small live baits like shrimp or pilchards. Let your bait sink naturally - these guys are wary of anything that looks unnatural. When you feel a tap, resist the urge to set the hook right away. Let them take it for a second, then reel down and lift. Here's a local trick: chum with cut bait to get them fired up, then switch to live bait for the bigger ones.
Redfish are a blast to catch around Clearwater. These copper-colored beauties usually run 18-30 inches and put up a great fight. Look for them in shallow flats, oyster bars, and mangroves - anywhere from 1-4 feet deep. They love hanging out in water so shallow their backs stick out! Fall and spring are prime seasons when water temps are just right. Anglers love targeting redfish for their strong pulls and delicious light, flaky meat. To land one, try sight-fishing with live shrimp or small crabs. Cast ahead of the fish and slowly drag your bait into their path. Be patient and let them find it - redfish can be spooky if you're not careful. When you hook up, get ready for some drag-screaming runs!
Snook are the crown jewels of inshore fishing here. These sleek, powerful fish average 24-28 inches but can top 40. Look for them around mangroves, docks, and beaches, especially during their spawn from May to September. Snook are prized for their challenging fight and delicate flavor. To catch one, try live bait like pilchards or lures that mimic small fish. Work your offering slowly along structure - snook are ambush predators. When one hits, be ready for explosive runs and acrobatic jumps. Here's an insider tip: fish the outgoing tide at night around lighted docks. The bait gets flushed out and snook line up to feed. Just watch out for their razor-sharp gill plates when handling them!
Tripletail are odd-looking fish that pack a punch. They average 2-13 pounds but can get up to 40. You'll find them near the surface around floating debris, buoys, or markers. Summer's the best time as they move inshore to spawn. Anglers love tripletail for their acrobatic jumps and tasty white meat. To catch one, look for their distinctive silhouette - they often float sideways to mimic leaves. Cast a live shrimp or small baitfish on light tackle and let it drift by. Be ready for a quick, powerful strike. Here's a local tip: if you spook one, circle back in 15 minutes. They usually return to the same spot if left alone. Just be careful of those razor-sharp gill plates when you land 'em!
